<image:title>Posts - Bringing Life to Living Rooms: The Power of Stuff - It may seem obsolete to evaluate the topic, however one of the most vital aspects (if not a requirement) of an interior designer is to provide the client with safety, comfort, joy, and efficiency where they reside. Understanding how the human race interacts with the world around us, the world we build for ourselves, and the objects placed within those four walls is key.</image:title>
<image:caption>Humans collect things and hold sentimental value in objects because it’s rooted in our need for emotional connection and identity. Having a conscious recognition of life’s temporary nature and our individual life cycles, we create value and purpose in what’s tangible and quantifiable. We hold value in the physical in order to provide us with more control of the intangible. What we classify as our “home” perfectly explains these needs to connect with our physical world - our home provides a narrative. A person’s home is the autobiography most don’t get to write.</image:caption>

<image:title>Posts - Pen to Paper or Mouse to Screen: Is Technology Killing the Arts? - Similarly to writing by hand, rather than typing - the psychology behind drawing by hand holds so much significance, it could never be regarded as obsolete. When it comes to any subject matter, whether a detail drawing, a floor plan, or a rendering - knowing and understanding your work are two different things. The computer screen acts as a wall between you, your imagination, and reality. Designing by hand is designing with soul - the hand is the connection between the human and the work itself. If you were to have a person stand in front of you and you were told to sketch them in extreme detail, you’d walk away from that knowing every aspect of that person: their eyebrows, their hair, down to every freckle. This profession is lucky in that we see a tangible, final product - from our minds to the physical brick and mortar. Drawing our work by hand, from our mind to paper, allows us to truly create with purpose and humanity - placing each freckle exactly where we intend.</image:title>

<image:title>Posts - Beloved Bays: The Power of Bay Windows - Funnily enough, I know I’m not the only one. Most people I’ve come across where the topic of bay windows comes out (though I have to admit, it’s probably not as many as I would like) everyone agrees that they too would love a bay window. So why? What makes this specific shape and design of window so appealing… The natural light is an obvious answer - the connection to the exterior environment. And yes, you get this with all windows - but not in the same way. This is a carved out space dedicated to simply being a window. It’s the spatial organization, the fact that it becomes a feature and a contrast from the consistent and expected formation of the room. A feature that is drawing us towards an innate human instinct - nature. Notice when you look at a bay window, you associate it with serenity, peace, or the act of being calm, cozy, happy. More than half the brownstones in New York City have bay windows… one of the most chaotic, loud, overwhelming cities in the world, yet somehow when I walk down the street and look at them, you still feel that sense of serenity. This is the power architecture can have on its built environment.</image:title>
